Dear College Baptist Church Family & Friends,

Thank you for your continued prayers for the Elders, who met again on June 9 to discuss the possibility of resuming indoor worship services. Thank you also for your feedback in the congregational survey. Not only were your responses helpful in considering when and how we might gather, they were also helpful for us as we seek to shepherd this particular flock during these unique times. And thank you for your patience up to this point and into the future.

After much prayerful deliberation, we are pleased to announce that we plan to resume indoor worship services at College Baptist Church on Sunday, June 21 at 10:00 AM. The service will last approximately one hour—including all the typical elements of our worship services, but with a limited amount of congregation singing and a shorter sermon. The nursery will not be staffed, but will be available for parents with infants and toddlers. Children’s Church will not meet for the foreseeable future. We anticipate celebrating Communion on July 5.

We respect those of you who are not yet comfortable gathering indoors for worship services. In order that you may worship at home, we will continue to provide a bulletin with music and sermon video links. The sermon will be broadcast live via YouTube on Sunday mornings at approximately 10:20 AM and archived on YouTube later that afternoon.

Should you plan to gather with us, please read and follow the guidelines below to promote the health and safety of our entire congregation—especially the most vulnerable.

1. Please stay at home if you are sick. While we will miss your presence, we do not want you to further compromise your own health or endanger the health of those in attendance.
2. Please consider using the front doors on Manning Street to enter and exit the building. These doors will be propped open and/or staffed by ushers to minimize physical contact. Handicapped individuals are welcome to use the ramp on the north side of the building.
3. Please practice physical-distancing—allowing 6 feet between your household and others. Please do NOT offer handshakes and hugs. Instead offer a smile and a wave.
4. Please make your way directly to your seat. Every other pew will be roped off on the main level to promote physical distancing. Balcony seating and Upper Vestry seating will be available as well. After the benediction, please exit the building to fellowship outdoors according to the physical distancing guidelines above.
5. Please place your offering in one of the offering plates in the rear of the sanctuary OR make your gift online at by clicking the green “Give” button. While we will have an instrumental or special music offertory, we will not pass a plate.
6. Please feel free to wear a face mask. Face masks are recommended, but not required.
7. Please minimize the use of our restrooms by planning in advance.
8. Hand sanitizer will be available in the Narthex and the sanctuary will be thoroughly cleaned between services.

With these guidelines in place, we recognize that things will not yet be normal. However, we believe this is a meaningful step toward normalcy. So, we thank you in advance for your cooperation. Now, more than ever, is a time to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit. Please take some time to prayerfully reflect on these words as you prepare to gather for worship on June 21.

“…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:22-25

For God’s Glory and Your Good,
Pastor Ben for the Elders

Some added words of instruction and explanation:

  • For those who are not able to gather with us at this time, please watch for an email and website announcement on Saturday with the bulletin and sermon link. We have decided against live-streaming, so you will be able to watch the pre-recorded sermon at the time most convenient for you.
  • Many of you might wonder what the sanctuary will look like, so click here < > to see a couple of pictures. For most of you, this will be the first time you get to see our newly re-upholstered pews! Notice that every other row is roped off. Notice also that in addition to Balcony seating, the Upper Vestry is available for those who desire more distancing.
  • Parents are encouraged to bring writing/drawing materials to occupy your youngest children, since we will not be making the children’s bags and clipboards available.
  • We will not be serving coffee for the foreseeable future.
  • The Elders will act as greeters and ushers. Bulletins will be placed in the pews to minimize contact. Our regularly scheduled ushers/greeters will be contacted when we decide to resume your regular duties.

Please don’t hesitate to email or call with questions or concerns.
