Services
As state-mandated restrictions continue into May with updates anticipated by the 28th, College Baptist will likely continue our morning services in online format at least through Sunday, May 31, still worshiping together in physical isolation but in spiritual union. Our path back to gathered worship after that will depend upon developments in state orders and, even as official restrictions relax, may for some indefinite time involve voluntary measures to ensure the health and safety of our congregation and community.

As each family gathers in your homes for a time of worship, heads of household, please make it a priority as a symbol of our unity as a body of believers to lead your family through the order of service in the bulletin, including the video links with music and sermon.

Readings and Reflections for Holy Week

posted Apr 6, 2020, 5:42 AM by CBC Admin

Holy Week 2020 Readings & Reflections
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.   -Colossians 3:16

Monday, April 6—The Tears of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 19:41-48
• Reflection: Jesus wept over Jerusalem because the Jews didn’t recognize his “visitation” as the arrival of the Messiah—God’s only chosen King. Are there unbelievers in your life for whom you should be weeping—especially in light of the deadly circumstances of our day? Spend some time praying for them to surrender to Jesus as King.

Tuesday, April 7—The Authority of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 20:1-21:4
• Reflection: The enemies of Jesus—including the religious rulers of his day—constantly questioned his authority. But Jesus never fell for their tricks. He is the authoritative King about whom David wrote in Psalm 110 (quoted in Luke 20:42-43). Are there any areas of your life that you struggle to yield to Jesus’ authority? Take a moment to confess those things and bow in humble submission to the Lord Jesus.

Wednesday, April 8—The Return of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 21:5-21:38
• Reflection: Jesus taught about his end-times return as the Son of Man, who will come with power and glory in the midst of crisis. The coronavirus crisis reminds us that we live (generally speaking) in the end times and that Jesus’ return is imminent. In what ways ought you be less “weighed down” with cares of this life and more prepared for Jesus’ return?

Thursday, April 9—Maundy Thursday—The Table of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 22:1-23
• Reflection: Jesus set the Passover table for his disciples before he suffered as the ultimate Passover lamb—whose body would be broken and whose blood would be shed as the once-and-for-all new covenant sacrifice. Take some time to remember the incredible cost of your salvation—purchased by Jesus and extended to you as a gift of free grace.

Friday, April 10—Good Friday—The Death of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 22:24-23:49
• Reflection: Jesus’ prayer on the Mount of Olives is the ultimate prayer of honest faith. “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Jesus honestly asked that he might be spared the cup of suffering on the cross of Calvary, but he showed ultimate trust in his loving Father’s will. Are you in the habit of praying this way? Take some time to pray with honest faith about your desires in submission to God’s will about the circumstances of your life and our world today.

Saturday, April 11—The Grave of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 23:50-56
• Reflection: The grave of Jesus reminds us of the reality of Jesus’ death. The women would not have returned with expensive spices and ointments to embalm his body, if Jesus were not really dead. Consider the sorrow of the women who saw the body of Jesus laid in the tomb—especially in light of all their dashed hopes of Jesus as the Messianic King. Let this be a reminder that without the resurrection, there is no hope.

Sunday, April 12—Easter Sunday—The Resurrection of Jesus
• Reading: Luke 24:1-12
• Reflection: The resurrection of Jesus came to pass just as he had previously told his disciples in Galilee. This means that not only is the resurrection miraculous, it also stands as evidence of Jesus’ trustworthiness. Are there promises in the Bible—maybe especially the words of Jesus—that you have doubted? How does the resurrection as a fulfillment of Jesus’ predictions encourage you to believe in the promises of God recorded in the Bible?

For the sake of King Jesus,

Pastor Ben

Palm Sunday, 2020

posted Apr 4, 2020, 7:41 PM by CBC Admin

Services
With eager hope for the joy of worshiping in gathered community in next year's Easter season, this April we will, as in March, be worshiping in physical isolation but spiritual union throughout the significant days of the coming week. In the course of this week we remember our Lord's entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his Last Supper with his disciples on Maundy Thursday, his death on Good Friday, and his glorious resurrection on Easter morning.

For each of these services, the church will provide via email an order of service bulletin with scripture readings and hymns and a link to a  pre-recorded sermon, so that you may gather in your homes for a time of worship. Heads of household, please make this a priority as a symbol of our unity as a body of believers. Watch the announcements on this webpage for details of coming services.

For Palm Sunday, here is the information that will enable you to unite in worship in spite of our separate locations:

College Baptist Church has a tradition of a children’s palm processional to the classic hymn, “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” on Palm Sunday to celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  We will miss enjoying this together; but we want to encourage families to re-create the processional at home

Here are some tips for you to get prepared:
